Snacking made easy!

We all know how summer goes. Kids get bored and want to eat all day long. In my home, my kids act like they have never had meal in their entire lives. They beg for food constantly which requires me to stop what I’m doing and get them something over and over. Since it’s summer, I don’t care if they have numerous snacks throughout the day. Some may disagree with this, but it works for us. I finally got sick and tired of having to stop every 3 seconds to get someone a snack so we created an easy-to-access (as in on their own) drawer in the fridge and one in the pantry!
I don’t mind my kids snacking all day as long they eat healthy snacks. As a mom, it’s my job to make sure I offer healthy options. Obviously if kids have the option, they will choose sugary over healthy. I mean what kid wouldn’t?
Here are some examples of what we put in ours:
  • String cheese
  • Cheese cubes
  • Bags of sliced fruit (ie…apples, grapes, pineapple, etc.)
  • Fruit cups
  • Go-gurt
  • Baby carrots
  • Applesauce cups
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Granola bars
  • Bags of goldfish crackers
  • Individual chip bags
  • Fruit snacks
  • Crackers
Those are just a few examples and I try to change it up a little bit each month so they aren’t bored with it. It’s really helpful to have and gives my children a sense of independence. It also encourages them to make healthy choices. My goal is to get them so used to eating healthy snacks that they won’t crave or want unhealthy options.
